On completing this insurance continuing education course, agents will be able to understand the Gramm/Leach/Bliley Privacy Act and the requirements placed on agents to comply with this act. This course includes an in-depth discussion of the NAIC Model Privacy Act, as well as information regarding other privacy laws, both federal and state, that insurance agents and companies must abide by. The Opt Out provisions of the act are discussed in depth, as well as the rules for delivery of the notice – to whom, how often and by what method. The penalties for violating the privacy law are also highlighted, and resources are given for agents to obtain additional information regarding compliance, as well as specific privacy laws in each state or jurisdiction. Finally, the safeguarding provisions are included so that agents can adjust their security measures in their offices to meet these new requirements to safeguard their client’s personal information. This insurance CE course will benefit agents by explaining their requirements under the new privacy laws and how to comply with those requirements. It will also help them in drafting their own privacy notices, opt-out provisions, and explaining the new requirements to their staff and their clients.
